The Muriwai That Inspired the Stories

Like Jessie, I spent my coming-of-age years at Muriwai.

Long before I imagined writing novels, this wild stretch of New Zealand's west coast became part of who I was. The black sand, salt-laden air, towering cliffs and endless horizon have a way of staying with you.

While The Muriwai Hearts series is entirely fictional, there are moments in Jessie's journey that quietly echo my own. The landscape, too, is woven through the stories. Not simply as a setting, but as a place that comforts, challenges and gently reminds us that every tide eventually turns.

These are photographs I've taken while walking the beaches and tracks that inspired the series. I hope they help you see Muriwai as I do: beautiful, untamed and unforgettable.
